Students flock to Careers Fair
Wednesday 14th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.
MORE than 30 career areas were represented yesterday at the Careers Fair 2005.
Numerous secondary students from a variety of schools, as well as undergraduates and Islanders looking for a new career, packed out the Langford sports hall at Victoria College for the event.
Andy Gibbs, the Island’s head of careers and work-related learning, said: ‘This is the first time that we’ve held the Careers Fair for a few years.
It’s a bit lower-key, but it’s proved just as popular as ever.
In the first half-hour alone a couple of hundred people turned up.
It’s mainly about giving people the chance to talk to people, face to face, about the careers that interest them.’ Mr Gibbs said that the fair was targeted at those aged 15 and upwards.
‘I’m pleased to see students from the schools as well as many undergraduates here.
We held it now, as we knew that many university students would not yet have gone back.
It’s aimed at a wide age range, from those looking for a career to those already working who are interested in a career change,’ he said.
