Jersey plan feat of clay

Thursday 15th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

A CLAY pigeon shooting party leaves the Island bound for Ireland and the Home International tournament this week – hoping to improve on last year’s booby prize.

The 15-strong team, skippered by Ashley Le Sech, face England, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Guernsey at the Mill Hill range in Co Louth on Saturday.

But team manager Billy Staite is realistic about the side’s chances.

‘We’ve got a stronger team this time, but our main aim is to beat Guernsey,’ he said.

‘We won’t beat the rest because they’ve all got champion shooters – and they can choose from between 2,000 and 3,000 people.’ An open competition on Sunday will follow the international.

Team: Ashley Le Sech (capt), Wayne Shales, Jonathan de la Haye, Martin Shales, Billy Staite, Paul Lister.

Ross Bowden, Richard Le Brun, David Le Rondu, Paul Cragg, Clive Green, Steve Stokes, Chris Settle, Mike Barnes, Andrew Johnson.
