New hockey inter-insular

Thursday 15th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

BECAUSE boys’ hockey at under-15 level in both Guernsey and Jersey has progressed substantially over the last few years the first inter-insular has been organised at Les Quennevais a week on Sunday at 1 pm.

Development Officer Shelagh Herbert explained: ‘It has been a passion of mine to try to achieve boys’ age group inter-insulars.

The success of the Deutsche Bank development programme plus the inclusion of the boys’ Caesarean team in the Ladies’ Division I means we are now ready to challenge Guernsey.

‘I also hope that this pilot scheme proves a success and that we can run an under-17 inter-insular next season.

Richard Le Lievre has managed the Caesarean team in 2004 and is continuing that role in the season 2005-6.

‘His offer, as a qualified coach, to help support the development of the under-15 boys’ side, has been fantastic.’ There is also the possibility that Jersey players will be eligible for an under-15 Channel Islands side in county events in future years.

Jersey squad: Peter Millar, Evan La Framboise, Will Warner, Rory De Carteret, Daniel Luce, Jack Seymour, Thomas Le Lièvre, Rupert Cudden-Large, Johnny Ashton-Barnett, Henry Temple-Redshaw, Spencer Scholfield, Johnny Hickling, John Borg, Daniel Tardivel, Daniel McAviney, Chris Mourant and Gus Warner.

Richard Le Lievre, team manager, added: ‘I am looking forward to seeing how this squad of players gets on against what I am led to believe is a very strong Guernsey side.

Win or lose, however, it is great for the boys to play in an inter-insular’.
