Parish caught up in a tale of two centres

Thursday 15th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

A SITE at Five Oaks is being considered for a new community centre in St Saviour .

. .

while a centre remains half-built at Longueville.

Deputy Roy Le Hérissier is calling for new facilities to be built at Cinq Chênes, regardless of whether or not the Jack Falle Foundation centre is completed at Longueville.

He believes that it should form part of a proposed housing development in the field opposite the Jersey Evening Post.

‘If the Jack Falle centre is finished it will serve local people around the Longueville area.

It is not possible to serve the people at Cinq Chênes as well.

They need their own centre.

These are very big areas we are talking about,’ he said.

But the Constable of St Saviour, Philip Ozouf, said he thought that the Jack Falle centre, on which £500,000 has already been spent, was more of a priority.

It may have to be let to a tenant, however, if funds are not forthcoming.

‘If a community centre at Cinq Chênes is built first it will be very disappointing, because, quite frankly, there is a centre down the road at Maufant.

At Longueville there is nothing.

It is greatly needed in that area,’ said Mr Ozouf.
