Monday 19th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

ROYAL Jersey Golf Club stormed into the Hampshire 7-a-side tournament semi-finals following a landslide victory at Grouville yesterday.

Twenty-four hours after their team’s players competed in the 36-hole Jack Messervy Trophy competition, the Royal golfers won all seven matches against North Hants GC.

Royal secretary Darren Attwood said: ‘It was a fantastic win and a great recovery because at one stage things did not appear to be going to well for us.

‘North Hants had a very strong team and in the end our lads pulled out all the stops.

There was some excellent golf played and we now have the semi-final and final day to look forward to at Waterlooville on Sunday 2 October.’ Scratch player Christy McLaughlin won a see-saw match at the 21st hole against three-handicapper Chris Allen.

McLaughlin was two-up after 11 holes only for Allen to birdie 12, 13 and 14 and win 15 to go two-up himself.

McLaughlin won 16 and 17 to level before missing a tiddler of a putt at the 18th to win the match.

Paul Le Chevalier, conceding seven shots, scored five birdies in his round to beat Mark Butler 4 and 2.

Matthew Parkman and Matthew Vincent both won 4 and 3 against Peter West and John McGlashan respectively before Robbie Messervy, who reduced his handicap to two on Saturday, continued the rout winning two-up against Martin Griggs.

Richard Harrop played solidly to win his match 3 and 2 against Paul McDonnell before Gavin O’Neill defeated plus-one player Ashley Sharp 6 and 5 finishing on a seven-under-par score.

Royal Jersey last won the Hampshire Sevens in 1983 while in recently years they were beaten at the semi-final stage by the North Hants club.
