Scottish call time on Le Riches Cup holders

Monday 19th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

GROUVILLE lost their grip on the Le Riches Cup following a 3-2 defeat at Le Boulivot, after extra time, by Channel Islands champions Jersey Scottish on Saturday.

Island striker Ross Crick helped himself to a hat-trick for the winners and he was denied a fourth when his third penalty of the game was saved low down to his left by Jersey squad goalkeeper Casey Hickling.

Toni Cardoso beat two defenders before finishing well into a bottom corner to give Grouville the lead on 30 minutes.

Minutes before half time, a corner from Scottish was swung in and cleared only as far as Crick.

He volleyed in from an acute angle from eight yards for another excellent goal.

Minutes into the second half Hickling brought down a forward and Crick scored the resultant penalty.

Soon after Crick fouled the excellent Danny Hughes and was subsequently cautioned.

Scottish manager Bob Kearsey reacted with comments to referee Ian Solomon to which he found himself being shown a red card.

Grouville equalised with 18 minutes to go, the impressive Alex Jefferies finishing from close range after a mix up in the Scottish defence.

Man-of-the-match Crick smashed home an excellent winner from 20 yards into a top corner in the first period of extra time.
