JERSEY Evening Post picture editor Peter Mourant, who broke his ankle while on board the Jersey Clipper on Monday, has spoken of his short-lived 24 hours aboard the round-the-world yacht.
Mr Mourant had an operation at Withybush Hospital, Wales, on Monday to put a screw in his ankle.
He is likely to be in plaster for the next six to eight weeks, but home by the weekend.
‘I have to keep my leg elevated and I’ve been told not to put any weight on it, so I’m learning to walk on crutches,’ Mr Mourant said.
‘After that the plaster will come off and the screw will be taken out, which will probably be done in Jersey.
When the plaster is off it should hopefully be a fairly quick recovery.’ Mr Mourant is confident he will be fit and well enough to attempt the last run of the Clipper race in June.
‘I think I will be OK to do the New York to Jersey leg.
The actual accident wasn’t too serious – I was just glad that it was my ankle and not my head, or my knee, or my back,’ he said.
