Waterfront: I’ll buy it back!
Wednesday 21st September 2005, 12:00AM BST.
A JERSEY millionaire wants to buy up some of the waterfront and give it back to Islanders as open space.
Stuart Weaving has offered the Waterfront Enterprise Board £1 million for part of the Les Jardins site and says he would then return it to the ownership of the States as an extension of Jardins de la Mer with the proviso that it could not be built on.
Mr Weaving’s offer follows the decision by developer David Crossland to withdraw his initial plans for the Les Jardins site and go back to the drawing board.
Mr Weaving, who has lived in Marina Court, overlooking the waterfront, for 23 years, does not think the entire design should be scrapped, but suggests that Mr Crossland reduce its height by three storeys and move it further back on the site.
Businessman Mr Weaving has had drawings produced showing what Les Jardins could look like were his ideas to be adopted, and says he hopes they will be considered as an option for the future.
