England beaten by strong Australians

Thursday 22nd September 2005, 12:00AM BST.

AUSTRALIA gained the victory over England U21s that they needed to progress to the semi-finals of the Junior World Cup last night.

Jersey’s Beckie Herbert again played the full match for England in Santiago, but could not repeat her heroics of the night before against hosts Chile.

England went down 4-1 to the rampant Australians, who qualified in Pool E along with Holland.

The other semi-finalist are cup holders Korea and Germany.

England will now play Scotland, last in Group F, for minor placings tomorrow night.

Should they win that, they will then face the winner of Chile v India.
