JERSEY Bowling Club member Gail Boswell recorded a hat-trick of victories as the Westmount-based club played their club finals last weekend.
Boswell won all three titles she competed for, the first being the ladies’ choice with partner Steve Hind, the pair romping to a 24-4 victory against Danny Le Marquand and Claudette Renouf.
Partnered by husband Derek, the Boswell’s then played Gus Hodgetts and Robin Horman and leading 16-2 they appeared set for a big win.
But Hodgetts and Horman recovered to trail 21-19 before the Boswell’s pulled away again to win 28-22.
Gail’s hat-trick was completed, again partnered by her husband, with a 21-8 success over Hodgetts and young Rachel MacDonald in the handicap pairs final.
Men’s championship holder Cyril Renouf retained his title after a closely-fought match against 17-year-old Jamie MacDonald.
Renouf, the Champion of Champions winner, was 7-6 up after seven before the scores were tied at 12-all after 13 ends before Renouf took the title by two shots.
Jean Lowery played some fine bowls to win the ladies’ championship against last year’s winner Lindsey Greechan.
Lowery led 5-4 after five ends and keeping ahead all the way she took the honours for the first time in 15 years by 21 shots to 14.
Lowery went for another success in the ladies’ handicap final but she was bowled out by Sue Dingle 22-6.
The men’s handicap finals was also won stylishly, 21-5 by David Bowyer against Peter Le Long.
Australian Mark Gee and Kate Quémard competed for the novice singles title.
Both delivered good bowls with Quémard emerging victor by 21 shots to 18.
Jamie MacDonald defeated sister Rachel 21-13 in the under-18s’ final while Claudette and Cyril Renouf led throughout to win the married pairs’ final 22-15 against Alan and Mayzell Martin.
Following a close match up to 12 ends, John Rowcliffe, Claudette Renouf and Kieran Rowcliffe pulled away to win the handicap triples 21-14 against Thomas Greechan, Michael Cochrane and David Ward.
Following the Closing Day competition, won by Jock Wilkins, Phil Baudains, Brenda Duhamel and Mayzell Martin, club president John Glasson thanked all those who had helped during the season before declaring the green closed for the winter.
