Spurned chances cost St Ouen dear in Willis

ST OUEN first-team missed a handful of good opportunities as they were dumped out of the JFA’s Willis Cup by Rozel Rovers Reserves on Saturday.
Dale Parker registered the Saints’ consolation as the Rovers triumphed 2-1 at Les Quennevais, courtesy of an own goal and one by Sean Anderton, to book a second-round match against St Clement first-team or Trinity Reserves on Tuesday 1 November.
Beeches Old Boys, from a game played more, moved a point clear at the top of Coca-Cola Combination Division II after they won 3-2 against the Portuguese Club.
On target at the FB Fields were Jez Field, Andy McKnight and Martin Roberts for Beeches and Filipe Jardim and Pedro Lopes for Portuguese.
Jersey Nomads, who are now third on goal-difference behind St Ouen, maintained their 100 per cent record following a 4-2 success over the home team at St John.
Ged O’Donoghue (two), Paul Lees and Steve Holt notched for the visitors and Justin Owens and Tommy Graham for the hosts.
Mark Harris notched a brace and Jason Harris and Andy Godfray singles as St Martin/SCF returned 4-2 victors from St Clement.
The hosts netted through Matt Scriven with their other goal being an own goal.
St Lawrence lost James McNair in the third minute with a suspected broken leg before succumbing 4-0 at home to Magpies.
The Saints, who had Phil Wood sent off following two cautions, also had Steve Le Quesne and Lee Ryan-Wilson carried off with leg injuries late on after conceding goals to Paul Duffy, Matt Pamplin, Luke Haynes and Lee Racjan.
Division II Reserves looks set for some interesting matches this season as five clubs have taken six points from three games.
Portuguese lead on goal-difference after winning 6-1 against St John at Les Quennevais.
Valerio Figueira (three), Flavio Olim (two) and Manuel J Brito netted for Portuguese, Jeremy Startup replied.
Doubles by Rob Mason and Marco Vasconcelos and a single from Chris Gallagher took Jersey Nomads to a 5-0 win against St Lawrence at Les Quennevais.
Neil Bredonchel (two), Carl Walker, Mike Conway and Gary Cadwallader notched as Magpies defeated St Clement 5-1 at the Airport.
Gary Bates hit the Saints’ consolation.
Tim Geall grabbed a hat-trick and Nico Bisson and Simon Gilley singles as St Brelade beat Sporting Academics 5-2 at St Brelade.
Phill Helleur hit both for the Accies.
Paul Stier and Michael Fox scored for St Martin/SCF and Beeches Old Boys respectively in a 1-1 draw at St Martin.
The hero on the day was Beeches goalkeeper Peter Vasse who saved two penalties.
St Ouen joined Grouville on a maximum 12 points in the C Division after winning 5-1 against Sporting Academics at the FB Fields.
Charlie du Feu (two), Lionel Gomes (two) and Phil Faulkner were on the mark for St Ouen and Ged Horgan for the Accies.
James Buckley hit a brace and Rab Campbell and John de la Mare singles to steer St Peter to a 4-0 win at St Lawrence.
Jersey Wanderers registered their first win, 5-2 at the Hockey Club against St Clement after singles from John Thwaites, Robert Searle, Matthew Munns, John Searle and Scott Young.
Justin Merrick and Matt Rawlings scored for St Clement.
