Waterfront:Thousands sign JDA petition
Friday 30th September 2005, 12:00AM BST.
TWO thousand Islanders have signed the Jersey Democratic Alliance’s waterfront petition against the proposed Castle Quay and Jardins de Mer development.
The petition has only been open for two weeks and the JDA say the public response to the petition has been very strong.
Campaign co-ordinator Shona Pitman, who will be a candidate for Deputy in St Helier No 2 in two months, said they had been passing the petition around in shopping areas and were considering taking it around housing estates.
She said: ‘Considering that in these first days of the campaign we have been targeting only key shopping areas such as St Helier town centre, Red Houses at Les Quennevais, St John’s and Gorey Villages, we feel this response sends out a very strong message to those States Members currently choosing to turn a deaf ear to the views of the electorate.’ Mrs Pitman added people were angry that politicians had ignored the overwhelming public pressure against the proposed Dandara and Crossland development, but said the petition was a good way to get the message across.
