Rugby:Jersey won’t worry about changes

Saturday 1st October 2005, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY Rugby Club, having made an impressive start to the season, make just one forced change for their away match in the Powergen London 2 South against Beckenham this afternoon.

Plymouth University student Ross Allan is unable to link up with the Island club so coach Dai Burton has moved hard-tackling back Mark White into the centre with James Milner replacing him on the wing.

The changes should not unbalance Jersey, says captain Steve O’Brien.

‘Mark is capable of playing in a lot of positions and moving him into the centre is not an issue,’ said O’Brien.

‘We started slowly last week against Maidstone and we’ll be looking to start today as we finished last week – strongly.

‘We know little about Beckenham other than they have lost both their opening matches by tight scorelines.

‘At training this week we have worked on handling the ball and getting the basics right.

If we do that well then other things should then fall into place after that.’ O’Brien is enjoying his new role of first-team captain adding: ‘All the players are doing their jobs on the pitch and if they continue to do that it will be for the benefit of the team and the club.’ Jersey bid for their third league victory in four games today with the following team: Gareth Jeffreys, Dave Carswell, Mark White, Steve O’Brien, James Milner, Darren Toudic, Paul Nayar, Marcus Nobes, Josh Chamier, Jim Brimelow, Roger Quirk, Marc Peters, Ian Henderson, Richie Griffiths, Will Grant.

Replacements: Simon Nevitt, Steve Mee, Huw Thomas, Harry Bonn and John Allo.
