TEENAGE archer Lucy O’Sullivan will be heading for the world junior championships in Mexico next autumn.

Fourteen-year-old Lucy – ranked fourth among Great Britain’s Under-18s – clinched her qualification for Mexico by scoring 1,250 to win the junior trophy in a FETA round at Ampthill, Bedfordshire last month.

Her performance also meant she became a junior master bowman – it was the third time she has scored more than 1,169.

At the same tournament she and Heath and Angela Perret won the Compound Shield.

Lucy, who goes to Beaulieu School and lives in St Brelade, came second in the Europa Cup shoot in the Czech Republic in May and shoots for the Great Britain under-18 side.

Her string of successes this year include victory in the Under-18 section at the French regional Cherbourg-Normandy championships – for the second year in succession – and a FETA shoot in June.

She also won gold in the junior section at an international competition in Coventry.

Lucy, whose father Tony was an archer, started shooting at the age of ten and practices most days on a range in the family’s garden and in the garage in the winter.

It will be her first time at the Worlds and she said: ‘I’m looking forward to Mexico – it should be really good fun.’ And her ambition? ‘To be the No 1 in Great Britain.’ Lucy is sponsored by Condor ferries and Education Sport and Culture.
