ISLAND striker Ross Crick returned an eight-goal haul on Saturday but is it the largest return in a game by a single player?

Individual scoring records have over the years been left to the clubs to mark down, so it’s difficult to benchmark the Muratti man’s feat.

Crick himself recalls a better return, although that came as an under-18 player for First Tower when he scored nine times and colleague Ross Peebles eight in a 22-1 win against Rozel Rovers.

Crick said: ‘The junior game was one of those games when everything we did went in for us.

It was similar to Saturday when we beat Sporting Academics in the Le Riches Cup [Scottish won 14-0].

‘I felt sorry for the Accies, they are a very young team and it really was men against the boys with everything we hit going in.’ A look back through the JEP records of recent years highlighted the fact that Crick also scored eight goals in a 15-1 Le Riches Cup win against Beeches Old Boys in January 2003.

Crick scored seven in a 17-0 mauling of Jersey Wanderers at the Hockey Club in Division I, two seasons ago, as well as notching a double hat-trick in a 13-1 Le Riches Cup romp against St Lawrence.

The same season Crick missed a 17-1 Division I victory against Sporting Academics – a night when team manager Bob Kearsey thrust Lee Harvey into attack and, yes, you’ve guessed it, he too scored eight times.

That season Crick went on to score 61 goals, 58 for Scottish and three for Jersey.
