Spotlight on police methods

THE number of complaints made against the police rose last year by around a quarter.
Ranging from complaints of excessive use of force to the use of CS spray, the Jersey Police Complaints Authority dealt with a total of 37 complaints last year – an increase of seven on 2003.
The number of complaints of use of excessive force is down from 17 to 11, while the number reports of harassment and threatening behaviour increased from five to 12.
There was also one complaint regarding the use of CS spray.
