Four new faces in Island squad to face Cornwall
Wednesday 5th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY manager Dave Matthews has included four new faces in his South West Counties Championship squad to face Cornwall next weekend.
St Paul’s goalkeeper Danny Evans, First Tower defender Tom Poole and Grouville defender Danny Hughes and club colleague Alex Jefferies, a striker, are in a 19-player squad for Jersey’s only away fixture in this season’s championship.
Matthews said: ‘They have all been playing well for their clubs so bringing them in gives me a chance to have a closer look at them.
‘The squad is strong but I am disappointed we will again be without several others because of various commitments.
I would love to have travelled with the squad that won the Jersey Football Tournament but, unfortunately, that is not possible.
‘It’s a young squad but also one with a lot of experience.
‘We are blessed with good forwards for a change and several of them are adaptable to play on the flanks.’ The squad is: Jimmy Styles, Danny Evans, James Hayward, Stuart André, Kevan Crowell, Craig Northedge, Allan Brown, Tom Poole, Chris Andrews, Chris Carter, Jon Fitzmaurice, Ross Crick, Danny Craven, Dave Le Roux, Craig Leitch, Bradley Russell, Alex Jefferies, Danny Hughes and Russell Le Feuvre.
Players unable to train on Sunday morning at the IJ Bathe Field should contact Dave Matthews, on 07797 719073.
Training on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week, 6 pm, Les Quennevais.
