Town park developer to fight on
Wednesday 5th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
TOWN park promoter Andrew Le Quesne has vowed to fight on despite the refusal of the States to set up a trust to carry out the development.
Mr Le Quesne is promoting a scheme to deliver a £30m town park with a 1,400-space underground car park at no cost to the taxpayer.
Although he said he was disappointed that the States did not agree last week to set up a trust to carry out the Gas Place/Talman site development, the fact that the proposition failed by only two votes meant that it had political as well as public support.
On Thurday last week, States Members voted by 20 to 18 to reject Deputy Rob Duhamel’s proposition to establish a trust to carry out the development.
Work is going on to assess the extent of the pollution that was caused by the old gasworks.
