Island side’s two-year wait to take on Wales’ Test team is over
Thursday 6th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S bowlers travel to take on the might of Wales in a long-awaited Test series this weekend.
Because of the Wales side’s heavy fixture list the series has taken over two years to arrange.
A team of 12 – six men and six women – will travel to the Cynon Valley Stadium for the two-day match.
The Welsh players include seasoned internationals Robert Weale and Ann Dainton.
But Jersey, who include seven bowlers chosen for next year’s Commonwealth Games, are confident they will give a good account of themselves: three of the ladies team, Sue Dingle, Chris Grimes and Gaynor Thomas, were in the side that beat England in a Test last October.
Play begins on Saturday with two men’s and two ladies’ triples matches played to 18 ends with each win earning three points for their country.
In the afternoon there will be six pairs matches and on Sunday two sessions of six singles matches played to sets of nine ends.
Jersey team: Karina Bisson, Chris Grimes, Carol Allen; Sue Dingle, Sue Noel, Gaynor Thomas; John Lowery, Alan Shaw, Derek Boswell, Dickie Allen, Brian Bisson, Will Waymouth.
Team managers and reserves: Jenny Allo, Kevin Le Long.
