Jouan grabs Southampton trial opportunity with both hands
Thursday 6th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY Wanderers goalkeeper Max Jouan played 45 minutes for the under-16 side of Southampton FC on Saturday.
Jouan played in the first half, the score was 1-1 when he left the field before Charlton Athletic went on to win the match 3-1.
Jouan said: ‘It was a good game, it was quick and I really enjoyed it – it was certainly challenging.
‘I was happy with my performance, I made a couple of saves and took one cross well.
The goal I conceded I came out for but the striker just got to the ball ahead of me.
‘It was a fantastic experience and I’m looking forward to going back on 30 October for a full weeks’ training with the club’s goalkeepers.
‘Southampton have asked me to work on my agility and I will be doing that this week when I return to training with Jersey Wanderers.’ Southampton have been watching the progress of the 15-year-old Grainville School student who currently plays for Wanderers’ U16s as well as the club’s first team.
The youngster has also represented the Jersey Football Association’s FA School of Excellence at all age group levels.
