Leitch to join Scottish
Thursday 6th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
MURATTI striker Craig Leitch is transferring from St Paul’s to Jersey Scottish today.
The move will strengthen Scottish’s hopes of winning the James Marquis Memorial Trophy for a third consecutive season.
Scottish manager Bob Kearsey said: ‘I got a text message yesterday morning that Craig wanted to join us and I’m delighted.
I’m always looking to improve our squad, Craig is talented and young and he will be a useful acquisition.
‘Our average age has come down over the past two seasons with the arrivals of Chris Andrews and Chris Carter and now Craig will bring it down a bit more.
‘Craig is a similar player to Ged McConnell [who is away at the moment].
He arrives late on the scene and with his pace he is very difficult to pick up.
He can play in many positions and with the number of injuries we have at present it’s good to have another player available to us.’ Leitch, who was a candidate for Player of the Year last year after scoring 26 goals, said: ‘I’m still scoring goals but I’m not enjoying it at St Paul’s any more.
The team has changed so much this season.
A lot of my friends are away travelling and we have a new manager in Tony Hoyland.
‘I’ve enjoyed his coaching and I respect him for letting me go.
‘He said when he came that if anyone was unhappy they could go and he has stuck by his word.’ Leitch also praised St Paul’s president Charlie Browne for the amount of work he puts in for the players and the club.
Leitch, who scored in St Paul’s 2-1 Charity Cup final win against Scottish at Springfield last month, could play his first game in Scottish colours at Le Couvent against Rozel Rovers on Saturday, kick-off 1.45 pm.
