No public warning for major exercise
Friday 7th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
PLANS to simulate a major emergency in town today, without giving details of its nature, could cause alarm and unwanted national publicity, say politicians and business leaders.
The emergency services will be involved in simulating a scenario devised by a group led by Civil Emergencies Officer Ian Dulake.
Roads will be blocked off and all the Island’s emergency services will participate in the scenario, centred around Union Street and the Parade.
It is understood that there will be activity around the States offices at Cyril Le Marquand House.
Mr Dulake dismissed concerns that people will be alarmed by what they may see.
‘The public are sophisticated enough to know the difference between real casualties and no casualties,’ he said.
