Trust launches new environment awards

Friday 7th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.

THE Gerard Le Claire Environmental Trust has launched a new award scheme to recognise the contribution of individuals and businesses in protecting Jersey’s environment.

The new scheme has four categories and aims to draw attention to the significant efforts that certain Islanders, groups and businesses make in a hope that it will encourage others to do the same.

The environmentalist of the year award, the Gerard Le Claire Trophy, will be awarded to the person whom trustees believe has made a significant contribution to the protection and enhancement of Jersey’s environment.

There will also be a Young Environmentalist Award, which aims to recognise an individual under the age of 21 who has demonstrated such passion and enthusiasm for the environment.
