Grouville shoot down cup holders
Monday 10th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
GROUVILLE soundly beat Jeremie Cup holders Sylvans 2-0 in Guernsey on Saturday.
Two well-taken first-half goals by towering centre half Josh Collins and midfielder Murray Dron put Grouville into the semi finals.
And had it not been for from some woeful finishing the margin of victory could well have been wider.
Grouville opened the scoring on 26 minutes when Collins’ header from 12 yards out off Alex Jeffries’ right-wing cross looped over goalkeeper Matt Oliver.
Six minutes later Dron doubled the lead with a fine individual effort – cutting in from the left he unleashed a 25-yard right-foot strike that curled into the far corner.
Matt Warren, given little assistance by his colleagues, fought a lone battle against a decent midfield in which Michael Hooper excelled.
Matt Le Cras’s well-struck 25-yard free kick cannoned to safety off a post.
Jeffries and lively substitute Luc Le Mière squandered several glorious opportunities before Grouville were awarded a penalty – Jeffries horribly slicing the spot-kick well wide.
Grouville: Rebelo, Hughes, Heslop, Le Feuvre, Northedge, Collins, Dron, Hooper, Jeffries, Cardoso (Le Mière), Hall (Kiersey).
