Call for Chief Minister to head Emergencies Council

THE Chief Minister should head the Emergencies Council in the event of a natural disaster or terrorist attack, Senator Paul Le Claire says in a proposition to the States.
The Emergencies Council is convened in the event of a major catastrophe in the Island.
It is made up of the heads of the major States committees and representatives of the emergency services, and is currently chaired by the Bailiff.
But under the new ministerial system of government, Senator Le Claire believes it should be the Chief Minister’s responsibility to chair the Council.
