New incinerator U-turn

THE replacement for the Bellozanne incinerator could be built at La Collette.
In an about-turn in policy, Environment and Public Services president Senator Philip Ozouf is today asking his committee to agree that the new ‘energy from waste’ plant should be relocated from the St Helier valley.
Since the search for a replacement for the ailing incinerator began in earnest, Environment have always said that Bellozanne is the preferred option, much to the consternation of residents.
Now, three months after the States approved the solid waste strategy, and having reconsidered the pros and cons, Senator Ozouf said that he was seeking backing to build the new plant on the site of the existing green waste operation next to the power station.
