Students join in as earthquake appeal gains momentum
Thursday 13th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
A SPONSORED walk, a Halloween party and a bands night could all be organised to raise money for Side By Side’s Earthquake Appeal.
And the charity is looking for a more permanent team of members to help out each time a fund-raising effort gets under way.
Jersey’s schoolchildren have started coming up with ideas to raise funds for those affected by the earthquake in South Asia and charity chairman Mike Wavell said that as well as event ideas, money had started coming in.
‘It certainly is good to see young people coming up with ideas,’ he said.
‘I think this is an indication of what is happening in schools today – they are looking much more at the wider world.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of Side By Side or organising a fund-raising event should contact Mr Wavell on 736415 or 725321.
Donations to the Earthquake Appeal can be made directly to the charity’s bank account, which is held at Barclays, Library Place, account number 50705365.
Alternatively, cheques made payable to Jersey Side By Side can be sent to treasurer Gill Phillips, Ravenscroft, St Saviour’s Hill, St Saviour, JE2 7LF.
