Leonis boxers hit the ABA championship trail tomorrow

Friday 14th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.

FOUR Leonis boxers will be in action when the county rounds of the ABA championship get underway at Exeter’s Riverside Leisure centre tomorrow.

Lightweight Ben Murray, welterweight Paul Young, heavyweight John McKechnie and super heavy Dave Lund will all climb into the ring.

Meanwhile bantamweight Les Bulpin has been awarded a walkover.

They have all been going through a rigorous preparation programme at the club’s Sout Hill Gym – they could all have to battle through two contests of four two-minute rounds on the night.

Two other boxers with Leonis pedigree will also be in action on the same night.

Craig Culkin will be contesting the light-heavy division in the ABAs at Liverpool representing his Sailsbury club and Danny Maka, who is at college in Southampton and has now moved to the city club, will be in the ring in the Southern Counties qualifiers.

With Leonis losing their venue for the season after a change in ownership of the Royal Hotel, away trips will at least keep Island boxers in the news ahead of the newly-formed Jersey Dinner Boxing Club’s show at the Hotel L’Horizon on Saturday 19 November.

Details on: www.jerseydinnerboxingclub.com Decio Ferreira, having moved to college in Plymouth will consult with Leonis head coach Dave Thompson before he selects a club in the city.
