Peters plays his cards right in Grand Aggregate
Friday 14th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
ENGLAND’S Nick Peters won Class A and the Kleinwort Benson Trophy at last weekend’s Jersey Outdoor Smallbore Rifle Club open shoot at the Crabbé range.
But it wasn’t decided until the last cards in the last competition with superb shooting conditions of light winds and sunshine, resulting in the Grand Aggregates being extremely close.
Peters, from Appleton ,came through with a 593 ex 600.
But Steve Le Couilliard, who captured the Waring Trophy as the highest-placed Island shooter in the Grand Aggregate, led for most of the three days and finished fourth overall just nine points behind Peters.
The fine weather also encouraged indoor shooters to venture outside with Mary Norman and Steve Bouchard from St Lawrence competing in the A Class.
And Le Couilliard lost out again as Norman beat him to the outdoor Island championship by just one point.
Meanwhile Steve Bouchard won the Cross Shot award for shooting on other competitor’s targets – each time being penalised two points! Angela Grim from Basildon dominated Class B, winning competitions 3 and 4 as well as the 50m, 100-yard and the Grand Aggregate.
Sue Thomas from Eastbourne won the Class C aggregate, although Jersey’s Tony Bougeard produced some personal best performances over the weekend and also won competitions.
International shot Linda Smallbone won the Ladies open championship and Jersey’s Jonathan Bouchard took the Junior Open and also the Junior Island Championship.
