Bonfire party is saved by CI Traders

Saturday 15th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.

THE BIG Bonfire on the waterfront will go ahead after all.

The popular event has been saved thanks to Tom Scott’s CI Traders, who have answered an urgent appeal for sponsorship.

Their pledge follows a warning by organisers that it might have to be cancelled because of a lack of cash.

The company has joined dozens of other local businesses, who have all contributed towards the cost of staging the charity fund-raising event.

For the past two years, the JEP has been the major sponsor of the event because of the paper’s involvement with the GOSH appeal, which was the beneficiary of the event.

However, the appeal for Great Ormond Street Hospital in the Island, which is expected to raise at least £1.5 million, has now come to an end.

This year’s 5 November event will raise money for the NSPCC.
