Town task force
Saturday 15th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
A NEW world-class yachting marina and a Whitehall-style district of government departments are under consideration by a political task group for St Helier.
Senior States Members say the marina, which would shift the commercial port to La Collette, and government district in Hill Street, are just two possible plans that could be funded by public-private partnerships using money generated by the waterfront development.
A group of States Members are considering a 20-year programme of changes for the town, which would include the Millennium Town Park and waterfront and could create a separate heritage-based waterfront along Commercial Buildings, leading towards La Collette.
Policy and Resources president Senator Frank Walker, Environment president Senator Philip Ozouf and the Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, have formed a group to draw up a long-term plan for the town that will continue with the Senators’ successors under ministerial government.
