Inflation at record low
Wednesday 19th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S inflation rate at two per cent is the lowest since records began in the 1970s.
The latest Retail Prices Index figures were released today and show that prices in the Island increased by only two per cent on average in the 12 months to the end of September.
For the first time, the figure is also below the 2.5% inflation target set by the States.
And the RPI (X), which excludes the cost of housing, was 1.9%, the lowest since this started being calculated in 1999.
Jersey’s inflation rate is also below those of the UK at 2.7%, Guernsey at 3.8% and the Isle of Man at 3.2% for the first time in memory.
