Unemployment up
Wednesday 19th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
REGISTERED unemployment rose to 415 by the end of September.
But Employment and Social Security say the rise is seasonal, and that the number of people registered as jobless with the department is actually smaller than this time last year.
They say the seasonal rise of 76 since the end of July is linked to the new registration of school leavers.
But they add that there is a downward trend since the 2004 figure, which stood at 508.
Employment president Senator Paul Routier said they were encouraged by the figures, and particularly the number of young people that were coming in to the department to discuss employment opportunities and register themselves as unemployed.
