£50,000 fine for firm in car lift tragedy
Saturday 22nd October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
A CONSTRUCTION company has been fined £50,000 after one of its employees was crushed to death beneath a vehicle lift.
Kieran Connery (23) died in December last year while working at SGB’s Rue des Prés offices, attempting to move the lift 14 inches sideways.
He died instantly as one of the metal legs collapsed onto his head.
The company was fined in the Royal Court yesterday after directors admitted breaching the Health and Safety at Work Law.
Crown Advocate Sally Sharpe said the fatality happened on 20 December as three employees worked on moving the car lift just over a foot.
