Football:Boyle given the nod for Island U18 debut
Saturday 22nd October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
FIFTEEN-year-old Celtic triallist Jack Boyle will make his Island under-18 football début tomorrow afternoon.
The Jersey Scottish midfielder has won a start in Jersey manager Dave Walsh’s team to face Surrey in the FA County Youth Cup at Springfield.
Walsh’s starting team, who kick-off at 1 pm, is: Greg Forster; Adam Speight, Tom Wherry, Joel Speight (capt), Aaron Maynard; Kieron Norman, Jack Boyle, Sean Doran, Jamie Cullen; Craig Russell, Ryan Le Cornu.
Substitutes: Max Jouan, Jonny Lee, Dave Sutton, David Kenyon and Danny Flynn.
Just five players remain from last year’s junior squad, including twins Adam and Joel Speight, the latter who will captain the team.
Walsh said: ‘Jack is a player for the future and I’ve no worries about selecting him.
‘He has quick feet and he works hard in midfield whether the team is attacking or defending.
‘It’s a big game for everyone and the management team and the players are looking forward to it.’ Should Jersey win tomorrow they will secure another home tie against Liverpool or Durham in the third round.
