Jersey to host cycle race stage
Saturday 22nd October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
ONE stage of a prestigious international cycle race will be held in Jersey in April 2007.
Over 120 cyclists from more than 11 countries are expected to race in a time trial as part of the Le Ruban Granitier.
The event will be held on one day and it will be a race against the clock with amateurs and professionals competing against each other.
It will involve the cyclists travelling at speeds of more than 50 km an hour for five kilometres along Victoria Avenue to the Rue du Galet junction and back.
The time-trial is part of a race that was created in Brittany 40 years ago and this will be the first time it has ever left the boundaries of the region.
The day in Jersey will be ‘le prologue’ – or curtain raiser – before the main race around Brittany sets off the following day when the cyclists return to St Malo.
