Into the unknown
Tuesday 25th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
A JERSEYMAN who survived a battle with cancer as a teenager is training for one of the most gruelling physical and mental journeys on earth.
In early spring next year, Raoul Surcouf is due to join a team of explorers bidding to conquer one of the last great unknowns in the Arctic.
With temperatures dropping as low as -40มC, some of them will tread where no man or woman has ever done so before, and try to become the first people to reach the Arctic Pole.
The explorers are attempting to reach all four north poles in a season.
That will mean one team following a new, 250-mile route to the geomagnetic North Pole.
