Jammin at the double in Autumn Series races
Tuesday 25th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
GUY PIPON and partners’ J-92 Jammin continued their recent form to win both Class 1 IRC rating cruiser races in the St Helier YC Iron Stores Marine & Blakes Paints Autumn Series on Sunday.
There was a good turnout of 13 boats in the near-perfect conditions of 15 knots of wind and sunshine.
Racing was close and Simon Benest’s Voodoo Doll took line honours from Allen Brown’s The Dogs in both races – but Jammin won both on corrected time.
Ben Rogers, aboard Harmony, sailed well to take second place – a second ahead of Voodoo Doll on corrected time – in Race 1 though the positions were reversed in Race 2.
Racing was equally exciting in Class 2, with the lead changing hands between Cassiopeia, MicMac and Canders several times in Race 1.
All three boats finished within a minute of each other, with Chris Weeks’ Cassiopeia first and Dave Sharp and partners’ MicMac second.
MicMac retired from Race 2, leaving another close race between Cassiopeia and Canders, skippered for the first time by Sean Scarsbrook.
Cassiopeia crossed the finishing line seconds in front and also won on corrected time.
The final races in the series will be sailed in St Aubin’s Bay this Sunday.
