Trio reach surf kayak finals in Costa Rica

Tuesday 25th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.

THREE of the Jersey team are through to the finals of the World Surf Kayak Championships in Costa Rica – with four more of the nine-strong squad in the frame for final places later today.

David Ollivier and David Speller are both through in the junior international category and Chris Ollivier the masters international.

The juniors surfed both international and open heats with Speller winning his international event with Ollivier second in his – putting them both in the final on Saturday.

In their open heats they both placed second to go through to the semi finals tomorrow.

Ollivier has been in great form since the squad arrived at the Esterillos beach on the Pacific coast and continued by winning his quarter final in style with long technical rides.

In the same heat Tim Rowe just missed out on a final place when he came third.

Chris Harvey, in his men’s international heat, showed his radical style to place second and advance to the quarter finals.

Both Jersey juniors, Speller and David Ollivier, and both masters, Rowe and Chris Ollivier surf in their open category semi-finals tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow also sees the rest of the categories through to final heats which will be surfed on Saturday.

Ailsa McDougall surfs in the ladies international semis early tomorrow after booking her place yesterday afternoon.

The team event starts on Thursday.
