Caught in £1,000 flat scam by ‘fake landlady’
Wednesday 26th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
THE police are looking for a woman who advertised for rent a flat she did not own and then ran off with the £1,000 she took from a man for the deposit.
Brendan McGill could not believe the £250-a-week deal he was being offered when he turned up last week to view the two-bedroom flat in Durban House at 18 Havre des Pas.
The manager of B Bar had rung the woman after reading about the flat in an advertisement in the JEP.
‘She told me to come and look at the house as soon as possible,’ said Mr McGill.
‘I went to have a look and she showed me round.
She said I had to get the deposit straight away if I wanted the house because several other people had been to look round.’
