Daniels delivers a masterclass
Wednesday 26th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
WORLD karate champ Rory Daniels was in the Island at the weekend giving a masterclass to members of the Jersey Wadoryu Club.
The 25-year-old who won the open weight title in Mexicio last November was at Springfield demonstrating and grading – with an hour on Saturday when fighters from the other Island clubs were welcomed.
Rory, from Bristol and on his third visit to the Island, was the English and British under-75 kg champion last year and has won five British and English titles.
He was also a member of the Western Karate Union side which won the English Championship in 2003 and 2004 and has just returned from New Zealand where he won double gold in the Commonwealth Championships.
Said Wadoryu instructor Steven Ahearne: ‘It was an absolutely fantastic weekend and we had good support from the Ishinryu and Kenyukai clubs.
‘All the people who came and trained with Rory said it was great and all of them went away with knowledge they wouldn’t have had otherwise.
‘Rory also enjoyed it and has said he wants to come back.’ l Daniels’s visit was sponsored by Freelance Garage and PBS.
