JERSEY’S Commonwealth triathlon hopefuls were together in the Island for the final time this week.

Paul Clements leaves for Australia tomorrow to begin his warm-weather training in preparation for the Games in Melbourne in March.

Other members of the team are Scott Pitcher and Tim Rogers, who will join Clements in Queensland in early March.

Clements and Pitcher intend to race in Perth, Hobart and will be joined in Southport by Rogers and team manager Gary Jones.

Warm-weather The Jersey Triathlon Club’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games have been sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland International (RBSI).

The financial support will help Clements, Pitcher and Rogers to undertake warm-weather training and racing in Australia in the run-up to the Games.

Jones, Commonwealth Games triathlon team manager, said: ‘I am absolutely thrilled that we have been able to obtain the generous support of RBSI to assist in our final preparations in the run up to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

‘Having the ability to train and race in Australia during January, February and March will contribute immensely to ensuring all three of our triathletes can give of their best on race day.’ Dave Isley, Head of RBS international personal banking, added: ‘RBSI has customers in many countries around the world and we are delighted to support the Jersey triathlon team in their bid for international success.’
