Rocky ride to UK final
Wednesday 26th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
FOUR local musicians who competed in the regional final of Chicago Rock’s Rock Academy in the UK almost did not get off ‘The Rock’ at all.
As a result of a misunderstanding between organisers at local and national level, three-piece punk-rock band Moog and local soloist Ben Speed, who came first and second in the Jersey final two weeks ago, were wrongly informed that their flights to the UK and accommodation in Sutton, Surrey, would be paid for.
But on Monday, when they telephoned Chicago Rock in Jersey to find out about their flights, both Moog and Mr Speed were surprised to find out that they would not be going unless they put up the money for their travel to the final themselves.
When Luminar were alerted to the musicians’ predicament by the JEP yesterday , they investigated what had happened, realised that there had been a mix-up and decided to meet the travel expenses after all.
