Halloween warning to parents
Thursday 27th October 2005, 12:00AM BST.
PARENTS could be held responsible if their children are convicted of offences committed over Halloween.
The States police have warned parents that they could be asked to attend police HQ, face court and even pay compensation if their children cause trouble.
The warning comes as part of Operation Focus, which sees extra patrols in trouble spots over the half-term break, particularly over Halloween and Bonfire night.
In previous years residents have been distressed by youngsters ‘egging’ and throwing flour at houses when trick or treating.
This year, if youngsters get into trouble, their parents may be required to attend the police station to collect their children.
In the most serious cases, parents may be required to attend court and be ordered to pay compensation to the victims of attacks.
