Residents angry over waste plans

ENVIRONMENT and Public Services were given a rough ride by Havre des Pas residents last night at a public meeting to discuss the proposed relocation of the waste incinerator to La Collette.
Over two hours, committee president Senator Philip Ozouf and his vice-president, district Deputy Jerry Dorey, faced a barrage of questions and heckles from more than 100 people packed into the Ommaroo Hotel.
A straw poll of the audience was overwhelmingly against building a new energy-from-waste plant next to the JEC power station, but the two politicians stood their ground.
Senator Ozouf said he was sorry to tell the residents what they did not want to hear but after many investigations and much consideration, La Collette was now the preferred choice over Bellozanne.
