Café shuts after just two weeks

CAFฐ Toulouse has closed two weeks to the day after opening.

Four staff members, who have been employed since July, have been made redundant, and proprietor Sean Murphy says that the Broad Street café will not reopen until next April.

The reason the café had closed, he said, was because of delays in opening.

He had intended to open at the start of the summer, but a health and safety requirement for toilets in the former toilet block meant a delay until two weeks ago.

He said: ‘It lasted two weeks.

I should never have opened it.

I couldn’t put out tables and chairs because the area is still a taxi rank, and we had opened it up as a sandwich bar, which is not what we really wanted to do.

We wanted to be proper French-style café.
