Call to freeze all States prices

Monday 31st October 2005, 12:00AM GMT.

THE States should freeze all charges and duties to help the Island win the battle against inflation, believes the president of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce.

Kevin Keen said that as the government ran so many important businesses, such as the harbours and the Airport, it should set an example and not put up its charges to consumers.

Speaking the day before Finance and Economics president Senator Terry Le Sueur reveals the 2006 Budget, Mr Keen said a freeze on charges would help the Island’s economy be more competitive.

He added that not putting up charges at the Island’s ports could also help attract more tourists to Jersey.
