Community award nominations sought

ISLANDERS who make a difference to the community are being asked to make themselves known.
Entrants are being sought for this year’s Community Award for Enterprise, which recognises people who give their time selflessly on behalf of others.
Last year’s winners were the team behind the Prison? Me? No Way! scheme, which aims to raise awareness of crime and its consequences among young people.
This year, organisers say they are looking for individuals, organisations and charities who work behind the scenes every day to enhance Jersey’s community, so that they can have the opportunity to be publicly rewarded.
Last year’s winners say getting the award has improved the charity’s fortune so much it can now employ a full-time member of staff.
Andy Bisson, one of the founders of Prison? Me? No Way! Jersey, will work for the charity permanently from next year.
He is now urging other people to nominate themselves for the award.
He said: ‘Winning the award was simply fantastic.
As well as raising our public profile it has considerably improved our chances of securing sponsorship and enabled us to increase our attendance at community events.’
