MATT Banahan played just over an hour of London Irish’s Guinness A League 21-17 victory over London rivals Saracens on Monday night.

The former Jersey Rugby Club player showed he was fully recovered from the leg injury that kept him out of the recent fixture between an under-19 team drawn from the London Regional Academies and the French U19 side.

On a bitterly cold evening in north-west London at Old Albanians Rugby Club in St Albans, the game was played in front of a crowd of 400.

The Exiles deservedly won an entertaining match because of their commitment to playing an expansive style of running rugby.

Eight minutes into the second half, it was reported on the London Irish website: ‘Matt Banahan, who had another good game at lock, was unlucky to have the ball knocked from his grasp as he went for the touch down.’
