Jury in drugs drop trial taken to visit key sites
Wednesday 30th November 2005, 12:00AM GMT.
THE jury in the L’Etacq drugs drop trial were yesterday taken to key sites around the Island.
They were also shown the light aircraft from which 90 kilos of cannabis worth £515,000 are alleged to have been thrown in three holdalls at around 11 pm on 2 October 2003.
Police officers got into the Piper Arrow plane at Aviation Beauport to give a static demonstration of how the prosecution say the gang ejected the 358 nine-ounce bars as they flew between the UK and Dinard, in Brittany.
The four defendants in the case were also taken on the site visits to the Airport, the cāštil near the former Lobster Pot restaurant at L’Etacq where the drugs were found and to various spots at Les Landes where, it is alleged, the cannabis was supposed to fall.
Richard Styles (35), of Markyate, Hertfordshire, is accused of flying the plane, while Joseph Day (35) and Joseph Carney (27), both from Liverpool, are alleged to have been taken on the trip to help throw out the drugs.
A fourth man, Cliff de Sousa (28), of Jersey, is said to have been a local link in the supply chain who helped search for the drugs at Les Landes.
All four men deny conspiring to import the drugs illegally between 1 July and 6 October 2003.
